Comments

Today we officially passed into Antarctic waters, crossing the 60°S at 0300. Surprisingly, several onboard were awake, although not up and about, to mark this milestone. Fitting for the occasion, and cause for the sleeplessness, we are experiencing some particularly spicy weather. Strong winds and 8-meter seas are providing quite the ride. Among all the waves and ocean spray we managed to sight our first iceberg. The long debated, and hotly contested, iceberg sweepstake came to conclusion, but not without controversy, as two people, both with the same first name tried to claim the prize. The dispute was settled and not before long a second iceberg came into sight. Out in the maelstrom, a lone snow petrel, perhaps a little far from home, completely unperturbed with the weather, seemed to be enjoying riding the air currents of the waves and the AIVIQ.
