Overnight we crossed the Antarctic Convergence, a natural ocean boundary that delineates the warmer sub-Antarctic waters from the cold polar waters that circle the continent. In this convergence zone, due to the interaction between these two currents, vertical mixing of the ocean occurs, which leads to increased numbers of marine organisms, in particular Antarctic krill, and because of this, more whales. However, sighting a whale doesn't seem likely, with the ocean wanting to give us a true welcome into these colder waters. The sea a turbulent mix of blue and white. Conditions are expected to deteriorate over the next 24 hours, so it's time to secure our cabins and lay low.
