Day one in the open seas.
And while the seas are being kind, for some, it's not kind enough. Expeditioners are taking the opportunity to find their sea legs while catching up on rest after a busy few weeks (and for some months) preparing for their season "South".
The AIVIQ, our ride to Davis Station, is a very comfortable 110m long icebreaker and the crew aboard have made us feel incredibility welcome.
Aside from changing over the station personnel, delivering critical cargo and fuel to Davis Station, the AIVIQ will break a channel into the ice for the AAD chartered Happy Diamond cargo vessel that will also make its way to Davis to deliver helicopter and general cargo.
Our journey is expected to take 14 days, but we all know that the weather and ice conditions will get the final say on when we will arrive. But before then, the Southern Ocean awaits.
