Just after 10am this morning, the AIVIQ pulled away from Macquarie Wharf in Hobart, with 38 AAD expeditioners and 25 AIVIQ crew to begin it's 14-day journey to Davis station. The departure was rather leisurely, almost dawdling. This is not because of lack of motivation to head to Davis, but more due to the heavy seas just of Tasmania. These conditions have led us to spend the best part of today waiting in the calm waters of the Derwent, allowing the seas to subside a little before we poke our nose out into the Southern Ocean. It's fair to say that all aboard have welcomed this decision and have spent the day familiarizing themselves with their home for the next two weeks, as well as enjoying the sun on the helideck.
Muster drills complete and cabin stowed, the AIVIQ will soon turn south with a sense of purpose and readiness for the journey ahead.
Fair seas and following seas for all.
