Comments

Refuelling operations were completed yesterday and we delivered all of the SAB (Special Antarctic Blend) diesel on the ship to Mawson station. It has been a great team effort by all on station and the ship. Refuelling is not an easy task and it was undertaken with diligence and care. The efforts of everyone is greatly appreciated and Mawson is set for another year.

The plan was to bring on board the outgoing wintering Mawson crew but the winds are not playing the game. The Aiviq is sitting in Kista Strait and the wind limits here for IRB (inflatable rubber boats) is 25 knots and we are currently experiencing between 25 -30 knots. We had already sent the IRB from the Aiviq to station in preparation for three IRBs to move passengers to the ship. As conditions are not suitable to do passenger transfers they have gone back to the red shed (accommodation, mess building) to stay warm and have a cuppa. We will start passenger movements when conditions improve to within the IRB operating parameters.

We wish the 75th ANARE a safe and successful year and look forward to seeing them all again next year and welcome to the 74th ANARE on board the Aiviq.

Cheers
Leanne & Matt
