Comments

After arriving at Mawson yesterday the Station Leader from Mawson and Voyage Leader and Watercraft Coordinator came on board to participate in Refuelling and operational planning meetings. The captain invited them to stay for lunch which they graciously accepted.

The ingoing Mawson team all went ashore to commence handover from the outgoing Mawson team. This is a very busy time on station as the fire team and the search & rescue team need to be handed over, exercises completed, power house shut down and restarts, swapping out of equipment etc. Australian Antarctic and sub Antarctic stations are basically small towns so require all the same services – plumbers, electricians, mechanics, chefs, doctors, carpenters, stores along with Bureau of Meteorology observers and techs and field training officers. Running a station is a very complex activity and the outgoing team spend several days with the incoming team to handover their responsibilities.

Along with the above we are planning on refuelling the station in the coming days in which many will be involved. There is also the Happy Dragon in the mix with final RTA cargo being prepared for loading. We are grateful to the Happy Dragon as they continue to provide a taxi service for the Aiviq in moving personnel ship to shore.

As we wait for the katabatics to ease refuelling preparations continue on board the Aiviq with our refuelling team.

Cheers
Leanne & Matt
