Yesterday was like a winter wonderland, snow, snow and more snow. The expeditioners were playing outside like they were in a kid's playground with snow ball fights and building of a snowman. It is great to see the joy on people's faces when they have this type of experience.
Someone has just put their head in the conference room and said whales at the side of the ship – this call never fails to clear a room. Whales disappear very quickly and often by the time you reach the deck they are nowhere to be seen. This time some people actually saw the whales or at least a tail. This provides a sense of satisfaction as you do not see whales on every voyage. This is a very big ocean so actually seeing them is a real treat.
Preparations including planning meetings and briefings continue in anticipation of our arrival at Mawson on Saturday. Our arrival seems much closer now as last night was our sixth and final clock change – we are now on Mawson time. UTC +5, Hobart time 1400 (2pm) and local ship time 0800 (8am).
Cheers
