An early start to the day for the deployment of the 4th and final argo float for the southbound leg of our voyage. The next two will be deployed between Mawson and Davis.
This morning Environmental briefings and equipment cleaning for AAD personnel was done. Tomorrow will be the day for the crew to go through the same process. Everyone who goes ashore at any of Australia's Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations go through these briefings which highlight amongst other things the importance of keeping your distances from the wildlife so as not to stress them, not taking any food ashore, cleaning your clothing and equipment. Cleaning stations were set up and boots, clothing, backpacks etc were vacuumed and scrubbed with disinfectant to ensure that seeds etc are not introduced to Antarctica.
Yesterday there was only the occasional iceberg but today there are a plethora of them. They are all shapes and sizes and no two are the same. The winds are up so there are a lot of white caps but we are still travelling smoothly through the water with no major rolling of the ship.
Cheers
Leanne & Matt
