A winner has been declared in the Great Iceberg competition of 2022. Last night at 8pm the first iceberg was visually sighted by the officer of the watch. Today there have been the occasional icebergs at varying distances from the ship. It is rather surreal sitting at breakfast then looking out of the port hole to see a huge berg gently drifting by.
There have also been a few whale sightings today. Generally they appeared to be travelling solo or with one other companion but we did see a group of about - they were quite a way from the ship but were identified as Fin whales. The whales and the everchanging weather have brought everyone out to the deck. We have had sunshine and snow showers and everything in between.
Briefing schedules and rosters are in the final stages of completion as we prepare for our arrival at Mawson later this week to changeover the Mawson wintering personnel, refuel the station and assist the Happy Dragon with resupply as needed.
Cheers
Leanne & Matt
