Last night we saw some more Auroral action. This was a fitting end to 40th birthday celebrations for Leon. He was surprised by a 'red carpet' into the mess at dinner where everyone was wearing ties/bow ties, made with considerable creativity. A number also wearing their best outfits highlighting the high regard in which Leon is held. After dinner a game of pass the parcel was enjoyed with some very interesting 'gifts' amongst the many layers. A friendly game of poker then ensured with much enjoyment for all followed by the appearance of the Aurora. Spending your birthday in the Southern Ocean with your Antarctic family can be pretty special.
Yesterday we saw snow flurries that are expected to increase as we continue our path south west to Mawson. Hopefully this means that the sighting of the first iceberg may not be too far away.
The third argo float was deployed last night with the silky skills of the Captain positioning the Aiviq on station and the crew expertly lowering the float into the ocean. Another great team effort.
Cheers
