The second argo float was just deployed. This is a different type with a different deployment method than the one used on Sunday night. Sunday night's was by using a harness to lower the argo float into the water. Prior to deployment a plastic cover was removed that covers the harness release mechanism. The automatic release system is activated on contact with water, the argo float is released into the ocean and the harness recovered to the ship.
Todays argo float deployment was using the rope method. After cleaning the sensors and configuring the deployment rope around the argo float as per instructions provided, the second argo float was successfully lowered into the ocean and gently sailed away prior to sinking to it's programmed location. Another great job by the crew and Deputy Voyage Leader.
Life on the ocean is reasonably calm even though we are travelling in 5-6 metre seas. Every now and again a larger swell rolls us a bit more but the Aiviq is very stable in the water and makes for a comfortable ride.
Cheers
