Comments

The Aiviq is a very comfortable vessel to sail on. She sits nicely in the water and continues to gently roll with the swell even though the swell is slightly higher than experienced over the last couple of days. Having said that every now and again a larger swell swings by to remind us we are in the Southern Ocean. Larger swells are also forecast for later today which may impact our comfort level.

Last night was very pleasant out on the back deck watching the graceful movements on a lone albatross. They are fascinating birds with a wing span of up to 2 metres. They do not seem to flap their wings but smoothly move on the air currents – it is entrancing and a privilege to see such majestic creatures. I am looking forward to seeing a pair as to watch them flying in unison in perfectly choreographed flight is an experience to treasure.

Today we turned our clocks back one hour – ship time is now UTC+10. This is the first of six changes that will bring the ship time into alignment with Mawson time by the time we arrive there.

Cheers
Leanne & Matt
