The Aiviq peacefully moved away from the wharf last night to commence our journey to Mawson station. We sailed past Australia's new icebreaker Nuyina preparing for her departure for Davis station with some of our friends and colleagues on deck to wave us farewell and take a pic or two. It was a beautiful night to depart with pink surrounding the clouds as the sun was going down as we made our way down the Derwent River. The Mawson winter team full of smiles and laughter as they were having their photo taken on the helideck on their way to a new adventure. More laughter as they tried to spell out Mawson with their bodies then realised the team is not big enough.

Our tasks on this voyage are to refuel Mawson station, changeover the ingoing 2022 Mawson winter team with the outgoing 2021 Mawson winter team, provide ice breaking support to Happy Dragon (if needed) and support Happy Dragon with the dry cargo resupply of Mawson and Davis stations. We will also deploy seven argo floats through our voyage. Argo floats are scientific equipment that collect ocean temperatures and salinity measurements.

The ship has a nice gentle roll that is doing it's best to put us to sleep.

Cheers
Leanne & Matt
