Surprise sunshine is often the best kind. This morning we awoke to blue skies and a lovely (albeit windy) morning and were soon headed back in to Kista Straight from our overnight holding pattern. With the Aiviq now in Horseshoe harbor setting up for refueling operations we are constantly moving around to stay close to station to support watercraft operations but keeping the ship safe from rocks and icebergs drifting around. In Australian Antarctic nomenclature this is referred to as 'stooging' and ensures a different view from the bridge and cabin windows each time you look out. With only a few containers of cargo left to receive, our 'stooging' could easily be mistaken for lurking as we wait for any opportunity to sneak the barge into Mawson and collect the next container to be marked off the DVL's list with a different color each day. For those of you playing 'RTA cargo bingo' at home, todays highlighter color is orange.
