They say red cars are the fastest, but yesterday we proved that big yellow ships are the best way to make a speedy departure from Hobart. With three ships due to sail on the same day it was always going to be a race and without a moment's hesitation when our time came, the Happy Dragon was away as we left Australia's new icebreaker the RSV Nuyina and the second icebreaker for this season the MPOV Aiviq in our wake as we sailed down the Derwent River and off into the sunset. Our first destination, Mawson station, Antarctica, over 5000km away through the thundering seas of the Southern Ocean and the mystical ends of the earth littered with ice-bergs and pack-ice, who knows when we will arrive! For now all we can do is settle into our rhythm and find our sea legs as we venture ever further south...
Regards,
David and Jacob.
