It's been a very satisfying 24 hours of cargo operations here at Casey Station.
Not only did we finish yesterday with a daily total of 185t discharged and 83t back loaded onto the ship, we also sent ashore the first few pieces of "traverse" cargo. These significant pieces of cargo will become part of a convoy of vans being towed to the interior of Antarctica as a mobile inland station to support the quest for the million-year-old ice core, perhaps the holy grail of Antarctic science. In addition, today, with weather and tides aligned, we were able deliver to station a 18t Hydreema truck and new 28t crane, both of which will play key roles in keeping the station moving. Importantly, the new crane will provide station with an increased lifting capacity at the wharf, essential for off-loading some of the larger pieces of traverse items still to go ashore.
REGARDS: Anthea and Misty.
