When one departs Hobart for Antarctic to undertake the annual resupply, all one really wishes for is a good team and good weather. We are fortunate enough to be blessed with both. However, today all we truly want is a good Casey storm, one with those strong easterly winds Casey is infamous for.
We sit in Newcombe bay, completely surrounded in ice. The uncommon westerly winds of the previous days have pushed an astonishing amount of ice into the bay. Patches of open water are few, and the sea ice extends 4.5nm out to sea in front of the entrance to the bay. Tauntingly, the conditions are perfect for a day of resupply operations, with blue skies and light winds. By all accounts this is an extraordinary and unusual situation to find ourselves in, but this is Antarctica. We now wait for the winds to change and we hope, when they do, they blow hard.
REGARDS: Anthea and Misty.
