The game of Antarctic cat and mouse continues. Casey resupply vs weather and ice conditions. Anchored in Newcombe Bay by 0600 and ready to go at 0745, a rare westerly wind smothered our enthusiasm. Ice had blown into the bay, completely obstructing the wharf. As the day progressed, we watched from the bridge, helplessly and disbelievingly, as more ice pushed into the bay, surrounding the ship. At station they made a Sisyphean attempt, breaking and moving ice from the boat ramp and wharf, only for more to fill its place.
Renato, our onboard karaoke superstar, with a specialty for Bon Jovi tunes, celebrated his birthday, his third spent at sea. Being his first trip to Antarctica, his initial impressions are that is quite nice, if not a little windy and a bit cold. Tonight, we will be "Living on a Prayer" and hopeful tomorrow proves a better day for cargo operations.
REGARDS: Anthea and Misty.
