A white Christmas on the Happy Dragon. Celebrated a little ahead of schedule, we woke this morning to a white ocean (open pack ice) and a white sky (fog). Reduced visibility and the need to weave through larger ice flows has seen our speed lessen.

This, fortuitously, allowed for some penguin spotting, a new experience for so many aboard. Adelie penguins barely lift a flipper as "the Dragon" slithers by. More significantly, in true tradition of the voyage so far, this gave an opportunity to enjoy an extra special gastronomic Christmas feast. Christmas gifts supplied from near and far were presented the by Captain in front of the ships Christmas Tree (which to much surprise remained upright for the voyage despite the heavy rolling experienced). Many thanks to BigLift, The Seafarers Mission from both Holland and Hobart, Kerstfeest op Zee (Committee Christmas at Sea, a Dutch organization), Tas Shipping (the obligatory Christmas Cake) and the AAD for the gifts which added some Christmas cheer to our voyage.

We still aim to be in Newcombe Bay by Christmas Eve however this is very much in the hands of the weather and, more so, the ice.

REGARDS: Anthea and Misty.
