We are making excellent progress, steaming at a steady 14 knots and later this afternoon we will reach the halfway point of a journey from Hobart to Casey Station. Henk Schollema, Chief Engineer on the Happy Dragon, is responsible for ensuring that the 8400kw, 11,000 hp Wartsila 8L46 engine remains happily humming along (and it must be said that the engine room is immaculate). Henk watched the Happy Dragon being built and has been on it since its maiden voyage 10 years ago. He can't think of any other ship he'd rather be on. While at sea he does miss his home in The Netherlands, his family and the chance to get out on his motorbike, but he is looking forward to his first opportunity to visit Antarctica and hopes to see some mountains (sorry Henk, not too many at Casey), cruise through the icebergs and hopefully spot an Orca or two. Having crossed the Antarctic Convergence this morning we are all beginning to wonder how long it will be until we see the first iceberg.
REGARDS: Anthea and Misty.
