Waiting in an ice filled bay in front of Casey station emphasizes many things. Most of all it highlights that we are "action" people and that forced inaction, while in no way uncommon in Antarctica, is not our preferred mode. The ships crew are busy with various painting and construction projects. A new "wet paint" sign always appearing on a different piece of railing. The ship's doctor, Natasha, has been revisiting her former interest in IT systems and has spent the morning trying to troubleshoot the onboard communications setup to improve our connectivity to station. Benoit, who celebrates a birthday today, continues his 8am, 1.5 hour walk around the ship, encompassing the full height and length of the ship. Today, there were a few stragglers trying their best to maintain pace with him, only to drop off before the time was up. Others have been discovering the boardgame selection and making good use of the ship's gym. The day passes. Perhaps these light winds will start to move the ice, and perhaps the ice is opening up, and perhaps there is in fact a lead between the ship and the shore.... We imagine what we need to for the promise of action.
REGARDS: Anthea and Misty.
