Comments

This morning we woke to an overcast drizzly day. The ship had moved from the east side of Macquarie Island to the west side in the hope that we were protected from the easterly wind and swells and able to do some cargo operations. The ship anchored in Hasselborough Bay and the LARCS did some trial entries into the water from the beach to confirm that conditions were good for cargo operations. At the ship the weather and sea conditions deteriorated so it was not possible to conduct operations this morning. We reassessed the weather early afternoon with a slim hope that conditions would improve but to no avail so no cargo operations today.

This has provided some time for the voyage management team to catch up on some administrative tasks.

I am reminded of the power of the ocean as we depart Hasselborough Bay heading back to the east cost of Macquarie Island, the way the waves smash onto the rocks spraying large plumes of water into the air while watching an albatross glide over the waves with amazing grace and agility. These are incredible sights and one not to be taken for granted.
