Comments

This morning the eerie mist of the Southern Ocean greeted us once more. The ice that was on the decks is now replaced with water as we encounter light showers on our passage north. The Seabird Team have recommenced their observations up on the bridge. Along with some old hands a new group of expeditioners are being trained to assist our resident bird whisper in the art of bird sightings and recordings. The conditions for observations today were challenging with the visibility restricted to ~ 0.1 nm due to fog. That being said the following have been observed: an hour glass dolphin, a grey headed petrel; blue petrels; an Antarctic fur seal; white chin petrels; a diving petrel and a rare Kerguelen petrel.

It's also been busy in the galley, where in the early hours of the morning the mess was filled with the smell of tasty baked goods. The result being some delicious Easter buns prepared by the Mawson chef and the Everest's baker. These Easter treats did not last long with expeditioners and crew gobbling them down. A big thank you to the Mawson chef and the ship's baker for providing us with a little Easter cheer. This afternoon we were reminded by the ship's Master that there is some unfavourable weather on the way. Expeditioners and crew alike are now ensuring everything is properly stowed in their cabins and workspaces to ensure nothing unexpected goes bump in the night.

At midnight tonight we will move our clocks forward another hour, bringing us another step closer to the time zone of our final destination. On a final note we would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to a certain member of the Voyage Management Team who shall remain anonymous.

Regards: Andy, Jenn and Lauren
