This morning many of us got up before the sun to attend the morning forecast briefing at 06:00. Those of us who were up and about, were greeted to a beautiful sunrise. The sky was lit up in hues of orange, red and pink, the picture completed by a small flock of snow petrels that darted around the ship.
The Helicopter Resources Team have the art of preparing the helicopters down to a fine art. By 07:47 both machines were in the air on their way to Mawson carrying more cargo bound for station. Today we moved 2.7 MT of cargo from the ship to Mawson over 4 sorties. In return the ship received a small amount of RTA cargo from Polar Medicine and Infrastructure. While the helicopters flew cargo back and forth, the team on the main deck continued to prepare more loads, the volume of super critical and critical cargo diminishing with each subsequent flight. By the end of the day it appears, from first look, we have discharged all super critical cargo ashore.
On board expeditioners have been keeping themselves busy. Up in the office deck you can find a keen group of LAN online gamers or the reading group discussing the latest piece of literature. The gym is a popular place which is frequented regularly by crew and expeditioners alike. Down in the cinema there is a regular afternoon booking for a TV series, and in the evening we are been spoilt by a range of presentations which have been given by expeditioners and ship's crew.
Tomorrow we are expecting heavy snow and with this is mind the helicopters have been placed into their container hangers for a day of rest.
REGARDS: Andy, Jenn and Lauren
