Comments

Today marked the first of our rest days and what a great day to stay inside as the wind howled around the ship peaking at around 70 knots. Last night the Ship's Master moved us north to sit in a less dense area of ice and wait the bad weather out. Late yesterday afternoon the wind began to increase and by early evening it was whipping around the ship with blowing snow. The ship's spotlights highlighted the blowing ice crystals that moved through the air in random shapes and patterns as the bergy bits and pancake ice passed the ship quickly.

The wind continued this morning and remained high for the rest of the day. A little after 09:15 the muster alarm rang and we all made or way to our muster stations carrying our immersion suits, life jackets and survival bags. The cooler weather reminded us all the importance to be wearing appropriate clothing and ensure the contents of our survival bag are either being worn or in the bag.

After the muster the corridors of the ship were quiet as many took the opportunity to catch up on well earned rest after a busy last 8 days. While some took the chance to sleep, read, watch movies, have a chat over a cuppa a group of likeminded expeditioners met in the Office Deck conference room to part take in some LAN gaming.

Tomorrow we will continue planning around looking at priority cargo for various groups in preparation for the recommencement of operations.

Regards: Andy, Jenn and Lauren
