Comments

Today was a similar day to yesterday with yet more planning and scheming occurring both on and below the deck. Early this morning a group of personnel went out onto the main deck with the ship's Master and walked through where the firefighting teams would be located in the unlikely event of an emergency. The deck crew continued with the game of container tetris they had begun yesterday and by lunch time the game was completed. By early afternoon the deck crew had moved the barges onto the prepared bed of flat rack containers, now leaving a clear deck space which will now allow us to operate helicopters from. The Helicopter Resource Team then went about cleaning the deck to remove any residual grease from the surface.

At some point in the afternoon the ship moved slightly backwards with open water appearing at the bow. Out of nowhere a pod of whales appeared, much to the delight of expeditioners who were outside getting some fresh air and sun. Expeditioners continue to make use of the good weather we are experiencing this afternoon by walking around the outside decks and taking in the views across the pack ice.

Tomorrow the plan is to conduct a reconnaissance flight to look for leads in the ice.

REGARDS: Andy, Jenn and Lauren
