Today the first expeditioner training and briefings commenced. These sessions are designed to provide expeditioners with information that will assist them upon arrival at station. Today's included station inductions, use and care of VHF radios and an environmental briefing. One trainer commented on the absenteeism of certain expeditioners ... the voyage leader is currently writing an explanatory note as to why the voyage management team were not present.
High up in the erye nest it's not only the sea bird team scouring the ocean. Expeditioners venture up here to sit quietly in the wings: some reading; some quietly chatting amongst themselves; whilst others keep a watch out for the first iceberg. The Everest Bridge team are aware of this and along with everything else they keep an eye on they have had their eyes peeled for ice bergs, which, until late this morning have been currently eluding us. However just before midday, ship local time, the eyes of a certain keen Davis bound expeditioner spied a berg in the distance which met the tight criteria set in the iceberg sweep. We all now look forward to seeing more as we steadily progress our way towards the ice edge.
As an aside our dearly beloved voyage leader reminded us that nominations for the Australian Antarctic Medal close on the 28th of February ...
