Comments

Sea and Air temperatures recorded on the bridge are beginning to drop as we head further south. At 10:38 this morning (Local Ship Time) an announcement was made by the Captain to say that we had just crossed 60o south, we are now officially in polar waters. For those who are lucky enough for this to be their first AAp voyage crossing 60 degrees south King Neptune lurks out in the sea fog, waiting to greet them.

The briefings continue on board, with the watercraft team meeting to discuss the loads they will transport from the ship to shore. One load which needs careful consideration and planning is that for the new front end loader, capable of lifting 20 foot containers, which is destined for Davis Station. In order to discharge this piece of equipment into station many things need to be taken into consideration and align for this particular operation to occur.

Meanwhile the Voyage Management Office whiteboard somewhat resembles that of a maths classroom as contingency planning around Mawson resupply continues. Questions for the fly off contingency include: How many payloads; how many flights and how much fuel will be required? All very important questions that need to be considered in the planning of operations should the need to resupply Mawson by air eventuate.

Now we are in somewhat calmer seas, briefings for all commence tomorrow in the main deck cinema and conference room.

REGARDS: Andy, Jenn and Lauren
