The gentle roll of the ship continues today as we steadily journey south. Expeditioners continue to place names to faces as we get to know each other. This year, however, an extra "layer" has been added to the challenge with masks being worn by all whenever outside cabins as part of the COVID measures in place.
Earlier today under the eagle eye of our Voyage Leader, the MPV Everest crew deployed the first of four Argo floats, for the voyage. These form part of the ocean observation system, with the data collected used to detect and interpret changes in Southern Ocean.
The Voyage 2 iceberg sweep is up and running thanks to Jeff, one of our refuelling team members aboard. The sweep is up a little bit earlier than last voyage due to the early iceberg spotted during the Voyage 1 iceberg sweep. For a bit of coin crew and expeditioners can pick a day and time slot when they expect the first berg to be spotted with the winner getting half the spoils and the remainder going to a charity. Strict rules surround the sweep to ensure there is no ambiguity – this includes what constitutes an iceberg, ie bergy bits do not count!
The first of our time changes will occur tonight when the clock strikes 12, with clocks on board going back 1 hour.
REGARDS: Andy, Jenn and Lauren
