This afternoon finds us resting on anchor, a little northwards within the mouth of the Derwent river. We crept up on Tasmania overnight and by morning it was there to greet us with the sight of trees and the smell of eucalypt mixing with the salty air. For those French who had wintered at DDU it has been over a year since their last tree, almost a year since they last saw rain.

And today Hobart has not disappointed, with a steady drizzle falling on us as we stood for our last emergency muster on the heli-deck, and a group photograph for the ship's records. Thankfully it did spare our afternoon get-together on the deck, our final social engagement (other than customs) before disembarkation early tomorrow.

With a return to network connectivity many have embraced the opportunity to catch up with friends and family on social media, whilst others remain in small huddles in the mess, playing cards, telling war-stories and sharing a meal of cold-cut roast beef sandwiches and pavlova. One more night of this ship's sounds, smells and cosily austere bunk cabins before we disembark and scatter on the wind.

What a pleasure it has been to be part of this voyage and to see what can be accomplished with good weather, good people and this good ship. We look forward to arrival alongside in Hobart tomorrow morning, Monday 16 December 2019 at 0800hrs.

Kind regards,

James & Leanne.
