This morning we awoke to overcast and misty conditions. By about 9am we were able to see the coast of Macquarie Island and within the hour we were dropping anchor in Buckles Bay. Our first visitors to the ship came by IRB and climbed aboard to brief us about the station and the island. The Station Leader, Ranger in Charge and Beachmaster then stayed for a lunch of fresh foods and headed back into station just ahead of our expeditioners. The ingoing expeditioners got the full Macquarie Island experience today with a transfer from the vessel by IRB onto the LARC which took them ashore. Mid afternoon we waved off our two helicopters as they went ashore to set up ready for a few busy days of cargo movement. The helicopters and LARCs finished off their afternoon moving some of our priority cargo from ship to shore. A great effort from all on the ship and ashore to make a really good go at our afternoon.
