A busy day today. We covered the environmental briefing to ensure everyone arrives in Antarctica with every skerrick of their clothing, back packs, bags and kit cleaned and free of foreign seeds, soils ad objects.

We also had a Station Induction briefing lead by the ingoing Station Leader to Mawson.

In the afternoon, a (not very surprise) visit was made by King Neptune to the ship to 'Anoint' expeditioners who have never crossed 60 degrees south before! King Neptune arrived, trident in hand, skin green and blue, dressed in 'seaweed' and the finest of fishnet, amidst a clattering of musical instruments (pot lids) and accompanied by his wife and two members of his royal entourage, one armed with a large salmon.
Much 'Kiss the Fish' ensued and each newcomer stepped forward to receive the Kings blessing!

To continue celebrating not only crossing 60S but also the Antarctic convergence (big drop in water temperature) and the first icebergs, we had our first Special Occasion. This involved a Quiz, organised and run by our Smart DVL, who's mother has appeared on a number of TV quiz shows and provided questions to test even the smartest of us (not the VL).

A great night and introduction to the southern ocean and a big thanks to the Crew of the Aurora and Amy for it.

Cheers
