This morning a little before 0800hs the Aurora drew alongside the wharf at MAC 2, once cabins had been inspected, passports checked and baggage deposited, the 33 expeditioners on the Northbound leg of the voyage disembarked the ship and were formally received back by representatives of the AAD, along with family and friends The end of V2 2019-20, but no rest for the old dear, the Aurora is being turned around to depart on V3 to Mawson in less than a weeks’ time.
For a safe and successful voyage, we offer our sincere thanks to Ship’s Master Gerry, Chief Mate Murray and all of the crew of the Aurora for their tremendous support and professionalism throughout this voyage. To the watercraft and refuelling teams and their respective supervisors onboard we thank them for their contributions as we do the other support expeditioners, Griff (our comms tech) and Marissa our ship’s doctor. To those northbound expeditioners we thank them for the pleasure of their company and their contributions to the onboard community.
Our thoughts turn again to Station Leader Ali Dean and her outstanding team at Casey. We thank them for their efforts prior to and during resupply operations and wish them all the very best for the remainder of their summer and the coming winter.
Finally to our colleagues in AAD Shipping and the broader AAD Operations and support branches (including IT) along with our counterparts at the BoM for their consistent support during the Christmas and New Year period.
To those expeditioners and crew shortly embarking on V3 we wish you a great voyage. May you be half as lucky as we were with the weather.
Regards and thank you for reading.
James, Anthea & Gemma.
