A cracking day near Davis, "the Riviera of the South" as it's known. Cracking weather, and we've been cracking ice to get to our anchorage. This year however, unlike the previous two seasons, the ice is proving to be much more of a challenge. "The best laid plans of mice and men", and all that... So what is the use of a plan if you can't change it? The planned use of Hagglunds vehicles to drive everyone ashore this morning (plan "B") was replaced with flying 25 people ashore using the helicopters (which was plan "A" a couple of days ago, and dusted off). So we've just done that, and have resumed our slog towards our preferred parking spot. Will slow again to move a small amount of cargo ashore post lunch break.
Last night we had delightful evening weather for our approach to the fast ice edge, with more than a few majestic bergs to get the shutterbugs excited. Our media crew jumped at the opportunity to use our ice recce drone to get some aerial footage of the ship as it smacked into the fast ice edge, (possibly for the last time ever here at Davis), producing what will no doubt become some of the most iconic footage ever of the ship.
