Another epic encounter with the King yesterday, with 29 inductees getting a right royal "welcome" into the Southern Ocean (and some old timers who'd met the king before, earning an extra dollop of goo too). The entire ship toasted their entry into the exclusive club of South Polar Sea Dogs with a special occasion drink.
Last night also saw us pass through a decent snow storm, with some on board who were having their first snowy encounter ever seen running about on the helideck with glee.
Earlier today, at 10:53:16 to be exact, the first iceberg of the trip passed at a distance of 4 nautical miles abeam the ship's starboard side. Snow showers in the area threatened to obscure the view of it passing abeam (it must be visible to be considered) but luckily they stayed out of our way. Colin D. was the winner of the Iceberg Sweep, being the closest to the actual time, and generously donated his winnings to Camp Quality (we raised $332). Our Captain predicts more icy encounters later today...
In other news, briefings continue, with Davis Station inductions being undertaken today.
