Today has been a classic 'hurry and wait' weather day for conducting operations at Macquarie Island. We had cargo on the heli-deck on the ship ready, the helicopters on the island ready and expeditioners ready to go ashore for the day. However, the wind picked and dropped off, the 'sea state' or waves prevented boating operations, and as a the day progressed, low cloud and fog rolled in preventing helicopter operations. Our view of the station from the ship, which is less than 1km away, has been intermittent all day.
