Comments

No icebergs sighted last night or today although there was one radar target at 10pm that was probably an iceberg.

We are getting further north now and the water temperature is warming as we approach and cross the Antarctic Convergence. The convergence is the line around Antarctic where the cold waters to the south run westwards and meet the warm waters from the north running eastwards around the planet. Icebergs are far less common above the convergence.

The Aurora Australis has a long history of supporting a Tasmanian charity for kids with cancer; Camp Quality. Voyage 3 is the usual 'shuttle bus' home for Mawson and Davis winterers and summerers and so we usually have a pretty full ship (127 this time).

During the year Expeditioners and ships crew spend their spare time creating practical works and art pieces, often from waste material or from from unique Tasmanian timbers or materials they've brought south with them. People knit hats and scarf's, mount amazing pictures, sell their time (but not souls!) etc. In total we came just a few hundred short of $25,000 pledged to the cause. An amazing effort by all!

Cheers

Andy and Misty
