We're making great progress toward Hobart each day. At night we're still slowing down to 9 knots because the cold water (3degC) means there's still a high risk of encountering icebergs. Once the water temperature increases and snow showers become only a memory, we'll be able to press on through the night at full speed, shortening the distance to go with each passing hour.
Tonight we don our bidding hats and limber up the bidding arm as we pull out those dusty wallets to secure ourselves a piece of Antarctic made or AA memorabilia. All forms of knick-knacks, privileges, artwork, craftwork, furniture, photos and more. They're all up for auction, fetching exorbitant sums for the benifit of camp quality.
The skill, craftsmanship and love that's gone into making some of these treasures is truly impressive, making this a very special occasion.
Cheers
