Yesterday afternoon saw the successful delivery of a very special parcel of equipment to the BOM crew at Mawson.
Six good Mawson men distributed themselves evenly across the far reaches of West Arm in preparation to receive a rocket...
The ship was brought close enough to West Arm to make throwing the parcel itself an option, when Rocket Man & Bosun Joe McMenemy took aim at the innocent targets ashore.
With a cry of "take that" he fired across the Arm, low and straight, delivering the missile onto the rocky shore ahead, slap bang between
man#3 & man#4 (although confessing later he was actually aiming for #1).
The 'particella specialis' was tied to the line and lowered to the water and the shocked, shaken and shivering shoremen (poetic license!) heaved away to bring the prize home.
With great relief and no small sense of achievement we sailed our way north through iceberg alley in ever increasing rough wind and sea conditions.
A right turn at the top of iceberg alley has us punching our way slowly across the northern reaches of the Lars Christensen Coast, en route to Davis.
The prevailing sea conditions and visibility have been described as 'filth' by some. Worse is yet to come.
Cheers
Gerry, Andy and Misty
