We arrived late last night in the vicinity of Mawson station and observed the ice conditions in Kista strait. At 0700 this morning we entered the strait and proceded to destroy the ice ahead of strong south easterly winds. We hope that the now largely ice-free strait will allow the ice in the harbour break up and exit, allowing ship to shore cargo operations to commence. Today's ice has been described as looking like extensive mudflats at low tide.
Cheers
