Successful retrieval of the whale mooring this morning followed by deployment of a new one.
Attached to the mooring is a whale sound recorder, one of the techniques developed to survey whales in the Southern Ocean.
Once on location the comms techs made contact with the whale recorder via the acoustic command system. Position was confirmed and then a code was sent to release the mooring from the sea floor allowing it to surface. There was a good crowd up on the bridge early this morning for float spotting and it didn't take long to find the yellow marker buoys.
Once the ships crew had this one safely on deck, the new one was activated and deployed. Comms techs talked to this one to ensure it was on the sea floor then it was high fives all round.
We are now on our way to Davis.
Cheers
Andy and Misty
