At this point in the voyage the expeditioners have well established daily routines. Cup of tea, crossword, cup of tea, puzzle, read a book, cup of tea, check whiteboard, cup of tea, movie. Some you could set your watch by. Daily fitness classes are popular and we now have the addition of a yoga session. The library is also getting a lot of attention with people finishing a book every couple of days.
Last night we were wowed by a professional Antarctic doco following the life and times of the Union Glacier team during their first three weeks of summer start up operations. A timely reminder of how fortunate we are to be a part of a small close knit team living and working in such a penetrating and breathtaking location.
Airbox and monkey deck tours conducted this afternoon included the unexpected bonus of whale watching. A pod of humpback whales was spotted off the starboard side. Other wild life encounters throughout the day included orcas and numerous bird sightings.
The first ARGO float was prepped ready for deployment early tomorrow morning. There will be two more deployments to follow. The ARGO floats collect observations which will then be used to detect and interpret changes in the Southern Ocean circulation.
Tomorrow heralds the start of the official resupply briefings and we are kicking off with the watercraft passenger brief followed by the environmental presentation.
Cheers
Andy and Misty
