Comments

Today under an overcast sky, the ship is making steady progress towards Hobart, now less than 200nm sail from us. The air is noticeably warmer (13 degrees) and whilst the smell of eucalyptus is not yet on the breeze, there is a distinct scent of citrus all purpose cleaner – a sure sign that preparations for disembarkation are underway. In addition to cabin preparations, expeditioners have been occupied with performance reviews this morning, and return of kitting this afternoon. Final voyage management and all-expeditioner briefings are scheduled for this afternoon.

And then for something completely different.

We expect tonight will be our last full evening on board the ship, with our arrival scheduled for 1730 alongside Macquarie Wharf 4 in Hobart tomorrow evening. Prior to the evening film, the D-Deck cinema will host a presentation by Jeff M, one of our refuel assistants on life at McMurdo station. And as a nightcap, expeditioners and crew are invited to a preview of Gordon H's symphonic composition. A work in progress, the piece is the product of Gordon's experiences and acoustic recordings from this voyage and time at Casey station – and is intended to represent the history of the Aurora Australis.

Regards,

Voyage Management.
