Having crossed the 60th, the ship continues on its North Easterly bearing towards Hobart. Overnight the ocean swell increased and changed direction adding to the roll of the ship.
For some unfortunate souls this led to a marked change in their complexion before they 'assumed the position' on their bunks to see out the duration. For many others.. a fairly sleepless night. One expeditioner remarked how the ship's mess was busier at 1am than they'd seen it in days at regular meal times. Whilst conditions have seemed to ease this afternoon, the ship remains tracking through the northwest quadrant of a deep low pressure system today which may see waves increase overnight and into Saturday.
End of voyage reports, performance reviews and a variety of other procedural documentation continues to get filed and sometimes traded between voyage management and the ship's crew.
Meanwhile a technical fault on the monkey deck has led to the suspension of data collection for a number of the instruments operating within the Schofield project – a disappointing set back for the team, but one they have met with good humour and with the support of the crew.
Presentations continue of an evening, as does film screenings. Tonight, the second instalment of Kurosawa's classic 'Seven Samurai'.
Regards,
Voyage Management.
