Overnight we continued to make good progress averaging just over 12 knots on our run towards Hobart. A major concern at the moment is to keep our guests comfortable in the krill aquarium. We continuously pump fresh sea water into the tanks but as we head northwards the sea water warms up and is currently at a balmy +2 degrees which is rather too hot for the krill. An intimidating collection of pipework, tanks, valves and chillers is meant to keep the water below +1 degrees but this system, which would do Wallace and Gromit proud, will have to work progressively harder as we transit Northwards; especially as we pass over the polar front when the sea water will warm up by as much as five degrees in just a few hours.
Today, we will experience a discontinuity in the space-time continuum when the clocks will jump forward by 4 hours at noon. Thus lunch will become dinner and dinner will become just a theoretical concept. This phenomenon is locally known as "Monster Clocks" and it's all about getting the ship and its occupants back onto Hobart time. Thus reminding us that we will inevitably have to emerge from our tiny steel bubble of civilisation and re-join with the mainstream.
