3343 nautical miles from Hobart, we have finally come to rest less than 1 nautical mile from Davis station. It's a beautiful spot and the natives seem friendly. After spending the morning getting the gangway down and establishing contact, we held a meeting with the chieftain of the local tribe and it seems that if we play our cards right, we could probably secure a 100 year lease on this place for just a few boxes of bananas.
We have just completed discharge of Davis passengers (and their seemingly infinite numbers of bags) and the ship seems somewhat deserted in the lull before cargo operations commence in earnest. A few of the Mawson bound expeditioners made the most of the opportunity to stretch their legs on the ice near the ship before it is transformed into a busy cargo terminal.
