The pace seems to be increasing down here. Even though we have quite a few days before reaching our destination, pre-arrival resupply briefings are now underway.
Yesterday, we passed over the southern part of the Kerguelen rise with the water depths reduced to as much as 1500 metres. This morning we are feeling our way south in grey and windy conditions as we head back into the deep water that lies between us and the Antarctic Continental shelf.
There has been relatively little ice to impede us so far but we are assured that it is coming our way. Pulses are quickening on-board as rumours of a royal visit begin to circulate.
