Last night a large number of Antarctic petrels accompanied us for a while, riding the air waves of the ship like chilled-out surfers. Whales had been seen feeding a little earlier so there is clearly good food to be had in these parts; something which all expeditioners on board know to their cost.
The echo-sounder confirms the presence of krill this morning with some swarms being seen between 100 and 250 metres below the vessel. Unfortunately we have no time to stop and put out the trawl net. We are continuing to push a wobbly line along 60 degrees latitude to our first ice waypoint before turning southwards sometime later today.
Clocks are going back one last time tonight to bring us into line with Davis time (UTC+7)
