We continue our tour of the 60th parallel crossing a featureless seafloor at 4500 metres depth. The weather is a little better this morning and looks OK for the next day or so as we plough westwards. There is no ice to be seen yet with the satellite images suggesting that most of it lies well ahead of us. We still have 360 miles to go before we even pass northwards of Casey.
In a victory for science, Michael Santarossa and Chris Young have managed to effect repairs on one of the atmospheric sampling instruments located on the Monkey Deck. Not sure how they managed it but fencing wire may have played a role. We also recovered and relaunched the Continuous Plankton Recorder this morning in the hope of making another 450 mile run with it.
We have both engines on this morning and are making as much as 14 knots at times. Water-skiing briefings will commence after lunch.
