We have now passed over the Tasman rise and the echo-sounder reveals an undulating sea floor varying between 3200 and 4800 metres depth.
We have not been lucky with the weather as the low pressure system we sought to side-step with our southerly course has also side-stepped to the south. Like two strangers trying to get past each other in a corridor, there is momentary awkwardness, expressed in this instance by rough seas with 3 to 4 metre swells. The wind has now swung around to directly oppose us and we have dropped back to around 8 to 9 knots.
There was only a slight drop in numbers at breakfast this morning. As Churchill might have said, if you are going through swell, keep going!
